University of Utah Hospital staff are working with law enforcement and the Salt Lake City Police Department’s bomb squad to assess a potential bomb threat.
At 3:12 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 15, the university’s Public Safety Department received a report of an abandoned backpack in the first-floor lobby area of the hospital. A bomb-sniffing dog alerted to potential explosives on the bag and Salt Lake City Police were called to respond.
The incident is isolated to University of Utah Hospital. We are working to ensure the safety of patients and staff.
All traffic and campus shuttles and Utah Transit Authority buses have been diverted and rerouted off of North Campus Drive. The public is urged to avoid the area.
