U of U Public Safety Joins the 2025 Race for Campus Safety

Members of the University of Utah Department of Public Safety (DPS) joined students, families, and advocates at the Lauren McCluskey Foundation’s Race for Campus Safety on November 8. The annual event honors Lauren’s life and legacy by raising awareness and funds to improve how colleges prevent and respond to relationship violence and stalking.

Heidi Franks, executive assistant with DPS, helped coordinate the event, working alongside foundation partners to ensure a meaningful and welcoming experience for participants.

Chief Keith Squires, who serves on the Foundation’s board of directors, ran alongside DPS team members. Their participation reflects the department’s commitment to collaboration, compassion, and continued progress toward safer campuses everywhere.

“Lauren’s legacy reminds us that campus safety is everyone’s responsibility,” said Chief Squires. “This race brings people together around the belief that we can—and must—do better. It’s about action, empathy, and lasting change.”

The Race for Campus Safety featured live entertainment, educational booths, and opportunities to connect with organizations dedicated to safety and prevention.

DPS is proud to support the Lauren McCluskey Foundation’s mission and to join others working toward a safer future for every student.
