Helping Ensure Lauren’s Promise is Shared

In October 2025, Chief Safety Officer Keith Squires was invited to join The Lauren McCluskey Foundation’s board of directors. This new role is expanding opportunities for Chief Squires to advance campus safety conversations nationally and complements his ongoing leadership at a state-level.

On February 12, the Lauren McCluskey Foundation is recognizing what would be Lauren’s 29th birthday, to raise support and awareness around Lauren’s Promise.

“I encourage everyone to remember the power behind Lauren’s Promise,” reminds Squires. “The simple phrase: ‘I will listen to and believe you if someone is threatening you’ not only guides our Department of Public Safety’s culture and responses, it reminds students, faculty and staff across the nation to prioritize student safety needs.”

The Department of Public Safety strives to continually improve their ability to support and respond to students who experience interpersonal violence and stalking. This includes training with campus partners on how to identify stalking behaviors and intervene early, as well as crime victim advocates who work closely with law enforcement to provide safety planning to students and employees who are at risk.  More information on stalking awareness can be found here:
