Ready for the Semester: Building a Safe, Supportive Campus Together

A new semester brings energy, opportunity, and a lot of movement across campus. Behind the scenes, the University of Utah Department of Public Safety is already at work—training, planning, and coordinating to support a safe and welcoming environment for everyone.

Our approach to campus safety is grounded in preparation. Before the semester begins, our teams focus on training and readiness so we can respond effectively and support the campus community when it matters most. But safety doesn’t stop with preparedness—it’s built through relationships.

Everyday interactions play a critical role in creating a safe campus. Conversations, questions, shared awareness, and trust help strengthen how we work together. That’s why we value being present and approachable across campus and why we encourage open communication with our community.

This semester, we’re continuing to invest in safety initiatives that emphasize shared responsibility. From community engagement opportunities to expanded training and awareness efforts, our goal is to make safety information clear, accessible, and useful.

We’re also introducing updates through our Public Safety Framework, focused on preparedness, training enhancements, and improvements to emergency alerts. These efforts are designed to ensure the campus community receives timely, reliable information during critical moments.

Your feedback matters. When you stop to talk with us, ask questions, or share concerns, you help shape how we serve the University of Utah.

We look forward to the semester ahead and to continuing our work alongside students, faculty, and staff to support a safe, supportive campus.

Stay safe, Utes.
