Enhancing Crisis Response with BOWMAC Training Program

The University of Utah Department of Public Safety (DPS) is proud to announce the implementation of BOWMAC (Basic Operational Workings for Managing All Crises) training for our officers, reinforcing our commitment to campus safety and emergency preparedness.

BOWMAC represents a comprehensive “All-Hazards” approach to crisis management, providing our public safety personnel with evidence-based strategies for effectively handling emergency situations from initial response through resolution.

What is BOWMAC Training?

BOWMAC training equips officers with specialized skills for managing critical incidents through:

  • Establishing effective command structures during emergencies
  • Coordinating resources efficiently across multiple agencies
  • Implementing systematic approaches to crisis resolution
  • Maintaining clear communication channels throughout an incident

This intensive training program simulates real-world scenarios, allowing officers to practice decision-making and leadership skills in a controlled environment before facing actual emergencies.

Enhancing Campus Safety

By investing in BOWMAC training, the University of Utah DPS is taking proactive steps to ensure the highest level of preparedness for any situation that may arise on campus. The program represents our ongoing commitment to professional development and operational excellence in public safety.

Cross-team training is scheduled to begin at the end of August, further strengthening our collaborative approach to emergency management across campus security units.

Our Commitment

At the University of Utah Department of Public Safety, we recognize that effective crisis management requires both advanced training and dedicated personnel. BOWMAC training enhances our officers’ capabilities to protect our campus community when it matters most.

We remain committed to creating the safest possible environment for all who learn, work, and visit our campus through continuous improvement in our preparedness and response capabilities.
